I think it’s important for everyone to have a great, reliable, and a killer cake recipe that they can pull out when the need arises. There are always get-togethers, potlucks, and pool parties when you just want to bake a homemade cake that is both pleasing to the eye and to the palate. This one is mine and dare I say, it could be yours too. Bursting with bright lemon flavor, this cake’s got a great softer crumb and tender moist texture. I added lemon juice and zest to the batter, which lightly infuse the cake with fresh lemon. Then, it is doused with a lemon syrup to further enhance the lemon flavor. Finally, the cake is decorated with lemon curd which adds an explosion of lemon flavor to every bite.
Chocolate Sparkle Cookies
Everything I love about a chocolate cookie is in this recipe. Crisp and sugary on the outside, and soft and fudgy in the center.
I had these cookies for the first time a couple years ago in a Christmas cookie exchange and I have to say I immediately fell in love! I thought it would be fun to make a batch of these cookies myself. So I sent a quick message to Sally (my cookie exchange partner) if she could share her recipe with me, and within minutes she sent me the link to that recipe. It was a Thomas Haas recipe. If you always wanted to try his world famous chocolate sparkle cookies, I’m going to share the recipe with you today.

Mochar Ghonto or Stir Fried Banana Blossom
Growing up I was fortunate enough to be exposed to all sorts of different foods and regional Indian cuisine. My dad served in the Indian Air Force and was posted at various states across India. Hence my mom got the opportunity to learn how to cook and prepare some of the local dishes. Many of which she included in her everyday cooking. One such dish was ‘Mochar Ghonto’. It is a traditional Bengali preparation of the banana flower. It is a healthy, tasty and an easy dish but preparing the flower for cooking is a bit tedious process. However for your convenience I have made this dish with canned banana blossom.
Sweet Potato spread/hummus – dairy free & vegan
The sweet potato spread/hummus came about one evening when I needed to prepare an appetizer to accommodate unexpected guests. As the weather is beginning to change and the march break is quickly approaching, it seems like a great time to share this recipe! Kids and adults will both love this spread over crackers with various vegetable topping.
Skillet Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie
This warm, soft and slightly crisp skillet chocolate chip cookie is deliciousness in every bite. Great for an afternoon snack or as an after meal dessert with ice cream. The recipe is super easy, and so much fun to make. I whipped up, baked and pulled out of the oven from start to finish, in less than an hour’s time. If you have kids around let them do all the work, I promise they’ll be so much happy to make and taste the result of their masterpiece.
Aloo Gobhi
A quintessential Punjabi sauté of cauliflower and potatoes. It’s also the dish that became so associated with the film, ‘Bend it Like Beckham’ that (back in 2003) the DVD’s include an aloo gobhi cooking lesson from the director and her mom. This dry dish is ideal to serve as an accompaniment to meats or poultry or lentils or on its own with chapatti or paratha. And if you can save some for the next day, sandwich it between 2 pieces of bread and take it to school or office for lunch.
