Snacks/Appetizers
Date and Seeds Bliss Bites
Nut and grain free bliss bites made without added sugar. It’s an easy recipe for quick snack, packed with plant based protein, fibers, healthy fats and antioxidants. These healthy bites would be a nice addition to a Christmas cookie tray.
Cast Iron Grilled Tandoori Paneer Kebabs
Every country has their own version of kebabs. In India, tandoori style kebabs are very popular. The key ingredient in these kebabs is the tandoori marinade which can be used for pretty much anything – chicken, fish, paneer, tofu, cauliflower, etc. In today’s recipe, I used paneer and bell peppers. They are threaded onto skewers that are marinated in the homemade tandoori marinade and then grilled until seared all around. These kebabs are fabulous for a party appetizer, quick snack, or sides for dinner. Above all, they are easy to prepare.
Cabbage and Sprouted Mung Bean Fritters
Low-calorie and nutrient dense fritters. Not only are these a great afternoon snack but can be a pretty satisfying breakfast with some fruits and boiled egg or avocado for the vegetarian or vegan option.
Stuffed Portobello Mushroom with Mint Pistachio sauce
Portobello mushrooms are great for swapping meatless meals and help maintain a healthy weight as they contain no fat, sodium, or cholesterol and are high in fiber and low in calories. Packed with a tasty and heart healthy filling, these wonder mushrooms make for an excellent appetizer or a side with fresh salad greens and quinoa.
Hope you enjoy!
Grilled Okra
Okra is a summertime culinary pleasure and grilling turns into something super special and irresistible. It takes away all the sliminess and adds a delicious toasty flavor. Tossed with salt, pepper, and sumac okra makes a perfect finger food or a hearty side with meat instead of French fries.
This is what I making these days with my home grown okra because it is the best!
Besan Dhokla/ Steamed Savory Gram flour Cake
This incredibly tasty savory snack is light, healthy and hit the spot. It is just as good at lunchtime if you can add a salad on side or for breakfast, alongside a cup of tea and fruit. It is a steamed savory cake, called Besan Dhokla in Hindi. When I was a kid, this was one of the frequented item in our house at any given event. Soft, & delicious, mildly tangy and sweet accompanied by the light crunch of mustard and sesame, garnished with the herby cilantro! It’s been etched in my mind.
