Rasam is an appetite stimulating south Indian soup, that is tangy and fiery hot. It can be had strained or just as is for soup or can be eaten along with a bowl of steamed rice. Rasam is a lighter version of sambar, yet with a distinct and appealing flavor. Try it once and I bet you will be hooked!

Butternut Squash Halwa
Halwa is a pure pleasure. It is an aromatic sweet pudding typically served as a dessert, with coffee or tea after a meal, or as a snack. It can be prepared from flour, fruit, vegetable, lentil or nuts. This halwa calls for few pantry staples: Butternut squash, sugar, oil, cardamom and of course a few goji berries for color contrast, but raisins would be equally fine.
Sauteed bathua
Bathua is a green leaf vegetable, grown in Northern India as a winter crop. In many parts of the world it is considered a weed and goes by funny name, such as fat hen, goose foot, lamb quarters, pigweed etc. I am sure most of you are familiar with it even if you don’t recognise by name, you might have seen one or two bathua plant popping up in your backyard with dandelions.
Red lentil and Kale Soup
We had few rain showers this week that ended our glorious summer and I thought about making soup. I never need an excuse for soup, though. Anytime is a good time for soup BUT cooler weather definitely begs for soup to be made. What do you think?
Polenta Upma
There are many reasons to love polenta. I often make a large tray of polenta and freeze the leftover so that it can be used for fries, croutons, tapas snacks and upma. When I did a post on polenta cakes with crunchy cilantro pesto, I said to freeze the scraps that you get from cutting polenta rounds for anther recipe. Upma, was that recipe I was talking about.

Millet “Berry Shrikhand”
Let me introduce you to a delicious creamy dessert called Shrikhand. It is a simple delicacy of strained yogurt, whipped to cream like consistency, mixed with sugar, flavorings and fruit pulp. As you can tell from the title of the post there is millet in my recipe. It is not only yummy but is virtually guilt free. The only fat here comes from whole milk yogurt cheese.
