Gobhi Paratha

by Balvinder. 25 Comments

Paratha is a popular breakfast food in North India, especially Punjabi household. I remember those days in India when I used to eat paratha every other day with malai (cream collected from boiled milk) or churned butter. Now with change in lifestyle and dietary habit I don’t eat paratha on regular basis but whenever I do, I enjoy with whipped butter.

Since paratha is usually stuffed with some kind of vegetable filing, it is best suited for the start of the day, preferably a lazy Sunday brunch, when you have no time to cook separate breakfast and lunch. It is generally served with just pickle, butter and yogurt, but it goes well with any spiced curry. Can anyone guess what curry have I served with gobhi paratha?

Almond Fennel Biscotti / Cake Rusk

by Balvinder. 22 Comments

When it is pouring heavily all that your heart desires is a hot cup of masala chai or coffee. And, because I believe coffee and tea are meant to be enjoyed with a snack, there’s nothing better than having a biscotti. It is my best all time favorite snack since childhood. My recipe of almond fennel seed biscotti is a mix of Indian cake rusk and American style biscotti.

Chocolate Walnut Snacking Cake

by Balvinder. 38 Comments

I don’t know about you but I don’t like when my cake cracks on top. Well may be because 90% of the time I don’t frost them or sprinkle with sugar. Basically, all my cakes end up as a snacking cake because of no frosting. A few Sunday’s ago my daughter and I were craving some real good chocolate cake and I decided to make the one which a google friend had shared with me. I followed the recipe as closely as I could, and got a delicious cake but with a cracked top.

Chocolate Pudding

Custard is among one of the dessert that I remember from childhood. It is similar to english pudding, but is eggless. My mom often used to make it for weekend family dinner, get togethers or when she had unexpected guests. It was quick, convenient and always tasted good with seasonal fruits. As for me it is not only a dessert with fruits but also a base for several other desserts.
