What does jasmine have in common with hot fudge sauce?
Well, nothing really…I took a couple of photos while working in the garden and brought a few cuttings indoor to put in the vase (picture here). When I was setting up the shot for the hot fudge sauce I thought to use the them in the picture. Flowers make great photo props. I love using them for contrasting color and texture. They also bring a bit of life in the picture, telling the story of the season. Jasmin is a long blooming vine (spring to fall) highly regarded for its lovely sweet fragrant white flowers. There are many different types of jasmine; the one in the picture is white jasmine. A member of the olive family, white jasmine is also known as the common summer jasmine and poet’s jasmine. Its aromatic flowers are widely used in the perfume industry. You can also hang a cutting in the car to make it smell fresh.
Let’s get back to fudge sauce, since my cravings are generally in charge of what I make, and I had a raging chocolate craving, I made hot fudge sauce for dipping fresh fruit. If you follow along here regularly, you know that my desserts are mostly made of chocolate and fruits. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Smooth, rich, decadent hot fudge sauce is a thick chocolate sauce perfect for serving over ice cream, fruits, oatmeal or whatever else your heart desires. Or you can just grab a spoon and make the jar of fudge sauce itself your dessert. I am not kidding 😉
You are going to love how simple it is to make. Above, you see all the ingredients needed for the hot fudge sauce: dates, coconut milk, cacao powder, bittersweet chocolate chips, coconut oil, and vanilla extract. It’s just a matter of cooking the ingredients together over the stove for about 6-8 minutes, then blending it to give a really smooth consistency. While my homespun version does not taste like the one you get in ice-cream shops but it’s million times tastier and far healthier with all the richness and flavor from the real ingredients.
The fudge sauce keeps well for up to 3 days on the counter and 2 -3 weeks in the refrigerator. If you serve it straight from the refrigerator, it is pretty thick like mousse but liquefies when heated in the microwave for few seconds.
