Today’s recipe is my take on the Mediterranean-style mint lemonade. Every time the warmer months enter I find myself making this drink. First, because I grow mint in my backyard which gives us a constant supply. Second, It’s not only refreshing and delicious, but pretty one, too. Third, it requires only 4 ingredients and takes minutes to make in the blender. If you are someone who likes to watch video while also reading the recipe. Then click here for the video.
But first….,
It will be a special for me in 2 days on 18th July 2022. 11 years ago on that day I started my food blog simpleglutenfreekitchen.com, to try and help people like myself (gluten intolerant or celiac) to eat something healthy, wholesome and interesting. Years of relentless cooking sessions and failed recipes became my creative outlet. I have fallen in love with this venture of mine. Although, I am not posting recipes as frequently as before but rest assured I am not quitting (just being lazy because of menopause symptoms). However, thank you for being on journey with me! I’m forever grateful for your love and support. I am celebrating 11 years of blogging with this easy and yummy mint lemonade.
The key to making an excellent mint lemonade recipe is using real lemon and fresh mint. We will be obtaining lemon juice and lemon peel from our lemon. The mint give this lemonade a vibrant green color and pleasing aroma. If you’re not growing your mint look for fresh mint at your local grocery store or farmer’s market. When these naturally fresh flavors are blended with chilled water, it’s one of the best ways to cool off on the hottest of days!
Once you have your fresh mint and other ingredients together, the method for making this recipe is quite simple. So easy that anyone can do it. Mediterranean mint lemonade is often served in “slushie” form. It is blended with a generous handful of mint, whole lemon, lemon juice, sugar, and ice, whipping it up into a frothy, almost smoothie-like texture. The whole lemon adds a bit of bitterness just to let you know. Tell me if I’m wrong.
I make mine more like a traditional lemonade, It has a liquid like-texture. That way you can substitute some of the cold water for vodka or a bit of sparkling water to the drink for occasions that call for bubbles. On the sugar side, we don’t like our lemonade too sweet so I usually add a little bit less, but if I’m making this for guests I add extra sugar or simple syrup in the pitcher as required. Also, I add lemon peel instead of whole lemon. It makes the drink intensely lemony without the bitterness. You can make this mint lemonade ahead of time. The Herby green color won’t change in one day.
This mint lemonade is unbelievably cooling and tasty. I’m sure this might be the most refreshing drink you’ll have all summer and serve at your next BBQ, garden party, family gathering, or any occasion party.
